The Artist: Linda Callahan

Linda Callahan, Pastelist

Born in Kansas City, I now live in Independence, MO.  I took art classes while in college at Penn Valley and University of Missouri-Kansas City.  While my interest in and my love of art has been lifelong, I put my practice of it on hold during child-rearing and career development years.  Now, as an empty nester, I have begun to develop my skills and technique as a pastelist.

I began studying with Donna Aldridge at her studio a few years ago.  Under her skillful tutelage, I was able to learn about color theory and techniques with pastel.  Her art of gentle persuasion, and her boundless knowledge of painting and art, have been invaluable in helping me to pursue my dream.  I have recently begun to study with Donna Yeager as well, and have taken workshops with Phil Starke, Margaret Dyer and Jerry Brown.

Composition and the effect of light on a landscape or still life are fascinating to me.  I have recently begun to delve into portraiture as well.  The endless play of colors, one upon the other, provide a limitless challenge that I hope will be a lifelong pursuit.

I hope you enjoy my work!
